European Champion for the first time

The European Cup 2008 took place in Austria and in Switzerland. This victory was the Spanish National team´s first international honour since 1964. During this tournament, Luis Aragonés appointed Iker as the team captain. The key match that led Spain into the semifinals was played against Italy, and during this match Casillas played a very important role during the penalty shootouts. The final took place at the Ernst de Viena stadium, where Spain won 1-0 over Germany. Iker was included as the best goalkeeper of the tournament in the European Cup Team.
